CYSTS

Follicular cysts (a.k.a sebaceous or pilar cysts), are small, closed sacs that contains solid or fluid material. They can be found anywhere on the skin and are caused by inflamed abnormal hair follicles. Treatment is required to prevent them from enlarging, which may lead to a rupture under the skin.

Patients may elect to have Dr. Prystowsky drain or remove their cyst through surgical excision under local anesthetic. If drained, occasionally a cyst may recur. Whether excised or drained, a small scar may remain.
